Travel Culture That Speaks To You

We’re On She Goes, a new destination for women of color to see ourselves represented in modern travel conversations. Our team of travelers—made up of rookies and veterans—are here to share the roads they've wandered on and the sights they've seen. Our mission is empowerment and inspiration of all women of color to travel more confidently, more adventurously, and more often.

We want to hear from you, and tell your stories to foster an inclusive community of like-minded travelers to dismantle travel stereotypes and provide real, useful information to women like us. We're looking for pieces that explore how race, gender, food culture, fashion, travel industry, homeland, feminism, politics, and more intersect with travel.

* We pay for your work. Payment varies, depending on the assigned piece.

Ends on February 14, 2018

2018 is finally here and we want to celebrate the idea of new year, new you by looking at the world of health & beauty. We think that travel—from a local hot spring, to a retreat on a another continent—can be a form of self-care, and we want to hear about how your experiences!

Do you have a destination that never fails to rejuvenate your body and spirit? What's your travel hack for hauling all of the beauty and hair products to keep you feeling good? Have you been on a trip where you packed like a minimalist and went au naturale? Tell us about your fave sheet mask that's must-pack in your carryon and how you're always able to find some you-time while on the road. We want to know about how travel can make you feel good, look good in your mind, spirit, and body.

On She Goes is a platform for, by, and about women of color & travel. Each quarter features a fresh, new theme around the world of travel. In Fall 2017 we're excited to explore our idea of Homeland

If you'd like to submit a pitch that's outside of the Homeland theme, please take a look at the other available categories

There's the cliche: Home is where the heart is. Home can be more than four walls and a roof, a zip code, or the wide expanse that lives within a border. Some of us are often asked, "Where are you from? No really where are you from?" or made to feel like we don't belong in cities and countries that we've called our home. As women of color, we've had to create our own spaces and belonging, and we want to know more about what it means to travel to one's homeland.

How were you shaped by the visit back to the country where you or your parents were born? How does your travel influence how you think about what one's homeland is? Is your homeland not a physical landscape, but something more abstract? Do you have a fun and funny story about "going back" that you'd think would resonate with our readers? Is your homeland less of a physical place, is it a favorite food, song, or person? Travel and homeland can feel complicated and comforting, and we want to hear about it!
